Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso (Your Lie in April)

on

I came across this anime in a local advertisement. It’s kind of funny and tried to check it out. Turns out, it is more than that.

Plot:

It is about a middle school pianist, Arima Kosei, who has been rumored to retire at the age of 12 after having a mental breakdown during a performance. His mother recently died and during his last piano recital, Kosei was not able to hear the sound of his piano even though his hearing is perfectly fine. He has been living a monotone existence for two years until he met a free-spirited violinist, Kaori Miyazono. She asked him to be her accompanist and she helped him overcome his past.

Review:

It is not like the typical music-oriented anime where characters are joining competitions one after another. It is mostly about the life of middle school music prodigies and sport jocks, and how they experience youth. It is about discovering their 14-year-old selves and how to best go through life with their friends.

Watching 22 episodes of this anime, I looked back to how I was doing when I was 14. I do not remember much and this anime reminded me what I took for granted while rushing to grow up. I forgot to make so much memories with people who matter. I forgot to make moments count. In the end, I rushed through life without so much to look back. Good thing that it is not too late. I vow to make something memorable each day, to not live in regrets, and to do something good to make good memories with my loved ones.

Your lie in April is a fun anime in the beginning, an insightful anime in the middle and full of drama in the end. Overall, it is a good anime to watch. You might get something in the end. It really depends on how you take it. This anime is entitled Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso (Your Lie in April) for a reason. It is a bittersweet anime that goes through the heart. I should say that I really had fun finding out what “Your Lie in April” means. As a parting gift, I embedded an OST song that I really like from this anime.
